Recently I remodeled my kitchen. The last step was to choose tile for a backsplash. The local big box home improvement store was of no help. In desperation, I googled “local tile vendors” and found Stone Cavern.

A couple of years ago we started planning our retirement home and intended to visit tile stores in the Boone area wanting to patronize local businesses. My first stop was the Stone Cavern.   After meeting and discussing our project with John Buford there was no need to go anywhere else.  I was looking to create an exquisite master bath and John’s extensive knowledge and experience enabled us to achieve that goal.  I knew the color scheme and design but needed assistance with the details.  Carly Moore’s artistic background allowed her to see my vision and to enhance it.  I also selected tile for the kitchen backsplash and found materials in the store to create a unique design above the cooktop that ties everything together.  Their advice and suggestions enabled me to choose a handsome, durable, low maintenance flooring for our combination laundry and mud room.  See the gallery for photos.  The Stone Cavern, John and Carly, offer a friendly, attentive and professional environment with a wide selection of top quality products.  We were more than completely satisfied and highly recommend them.

We bought a cork-backed birch look floor and are very pleased with it. It looks like wood and cleans her easily. It's in our kitchen and has withstood grandchildren and many spills. I will definitely buy from Stove Cavern again!

We worked with John to tear out the master bath and build a large walk in shower and a new floor in the whole bath. This was all done in Marble tile. He did a fantastic job and was very pleasant to work with. We are so pleased he is now doing another bath.

We needed to replace a shower/tub combination with an accessible walk-in shower. I started at Lowes, and was told none of their contractors would be interested since it was not a "big" job. I then went to Stone Cavern to look at tile. While there, John Buford and I discussed the installation services Stone Cavern provides. John assured me he would coordinate the tile selection and ordering, tear out, plumbing modifications, shower and tile installation, and shower door. I am pleased to say it all went without a hitch - completed on time and on budget! Special thanks to Rob Russ who did an outstanding job and to John for his professionalism and follow through during the entire project. Rob Ross just completed installing 300 Square feet of the most beautiful Italian faux wood porclain tile in our condo in Seven Devils. We tride atfirst to go with Lowes, but the products there were disappointing. We did finally find John at Stone Cavern and things defenitly went well from there. John has the highest quality and varity of tile I have seen. His advice on underlayment and his recomendation to use Rob Ross for install provided us with gorgoues floors, thanks John!

When we arrived at our Beech Mountain home and first saw our new shower room all we could say was "WOW", it is beautiful! It actually exceeded our expectations. The workmanship is outstanding! Your management of the project was exceptional as you kept us informed of the progress by your frequent phone calls and picture emails sent to our Florida home. Stone Cavern provided and installed tile for three shower enclosures and bathroom floors. After listening to what we wanted they recommended tile style and pattern. They provided all materials and labor. The installers were professional and prompt. They did the work in a timely manner and also were neat and cleaned up after themselves. The results were fabulous and garner much praise from our friends. We have hired them again for our condominium renovation project.

Renovations are always more challenging than new construction, however John at Stone Cavern made our jobs appear effortless, with outcomes beyond expectation! During the construction phase, John maintained consistent contact, communicating and dealing with me via phone and photos, regarding the many nuances that our renovation encountered. During our many conversations, several small changes were made as we delved into the project. He blended our wishes and suggestions, along with his guidance into a first class finish! Specifically, the three jobs were the removal of a monolithic fiberglass shower enclosure, with replacement with a custom tiled installation arrangement. This was the most physical, and potentially the messiest of the three major changes that we desired. His pleasant and communicative crew easily handled the tear out and removal with minimal clean up so the new construction phase could begin. The second task performed in our mountain home was the installation of an antiqued cultured tin back splash in our kitchen. Many angles, cut-ins and overlays were required. The finished product looks very natural, original, and he has brought our kitchen to life! Again, the clean up was very minimal with a fantastic finished product look! The final task was the removal of a cultured marble inset from around the hearth area of our two-way fireplace. Via a friend who specializes in hand painted tiles, John was able to communicate with her exactly what and when he needed the hand painted tiles. He adroitly took over communication with her, removing me from the middle-man position, thus improving the time line, maximizing efficiency, while sharpening the detail of the final product. The installation of these custom and special tiles onto a very uneven surface was a huge challenge, but with John’s installation suggestions, he added a relief that we had not envisioned. His brilliant expertise enabled the finished product to have a suburb look to vastly exceed our original vision. Wow, what a great addition to our fireplace facade! John at Stone Cavern was highly recommended to us by a retired, local contractor and we would certainly extend our hardiest support for others to utilize his expert services in any type of project involving tile work. Simply stated, “He is the best!”
